Curriculum

Welcome to Muddy Puddles Pre-School!
Curriculum Intent Statement

Our curriculum is designed to give every child the strongest possible foundations for lifelong learning. It reflects the needs of our children, our community, and the developmental principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage. We aim to create an environment where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to explore, question, and grow.

Our Vision

We want children to leave our setting as confident, curious, and independent learners who are ready for the next stage of their education. Our curriculum prioritises the development of the whole child — emotionally, socially, physically, and cognitively — recognising that secure relationships and a sense of belonging underpin all learning.

What We Prioritise

1. Communication and Language
Many children join us needing support with speech, language, and communication. We place a strong emphasis on high quality interactions, vocabulary development, and opportunities for children to express themselves. Staff model language, extend conversations, and create a language rich environment.
2. Personal, Social and Emotional Development
We focus on emotional regulation, resilience, and positive relationships. Children learn to understand their feelings, manage challenges, and develop empathy. Our routines and interactions promote independence, confidence, and a strong sense of self.
3. Independence and Life Skills
We encourage children to take ownership of their learning and daily routines. From self care to problem solving, we support children to become capable, resourceful, and confident in managing everyday tasks.
4. A Love of Learning Through Play
Play is central to our curriculum. We provide rich, stimulating continuous provision that encourages exploration, creativity, and critical thinking. Children learn through hands on experiences, open ended resources, and opportunities to follow their own interests.

How Our Curriculum Meets Individual Needs

We know our children well. Staff observe, listen, and respond to each child’s unique needs, interests, and developmental stage. We adapt provision to ensure all children — including those with SEND or those who need an additional challenge — can access learning meaningfully.
Early identification is a strength of our practice. Our SENCO works closely with staff, families, and external professionals to ensure children receive timely and appropriate support.

How We Work with Families

Parents are partners in our curriculum. We value their insights and involve them in their child’s learning journey. We share progress, celebrate achievements, and provide ideas for supporting learning at home. Strong relationships with families help us create consistency and security for every child.

The Impact We Aim For

We measure the success of our curriculum through children’s progress, engagement, and wellbeing. We want children to:
• Communicate confidently.
• Build positive relationships.
• Develop independence and resilience.
• Show curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
• Be ready for school with strong foundations in all areas of development.
Our curriculum is continually reviewed and refined to ensure it remains meaningful, ambitious, and responsive to the needs of our children and community.

🌿 Planting Through the Seasons

Our Planting Through the Seasons curriculum turns our garden into a living classroom. Children plant, grow, harvest and explore all year round — from sunflowers and bean teepees in summer to pumpkins, bulbs and birdwatching in the colder months. Every season brings new adventures, hands‑on learning and plenty of muddy moments, helping children build curiosity, confidence and a love for nature.
